Contemporary Basketry with Morgan Ships - Fine Arts InstituteNot all "basket weaving" results in a vessel. Basketry weaving is essentially the act of weaving without a loom, and offers the artist the ability to use materials that aren't compatible with looms. That said, if baskets are your goal, this class is a great way to launch your basketry journey! This class is open to all levels. The techniques we discuss will be accessible to the beginner, and will get you started. For the experienced basket maker, this class will offer you new ways to approach the "basket". We can all benefit from the group studio experience; receiving feedback, encountering new ways of thinking, and build off one another's energy. A note on my teaching style: New techniques, and material processes will be presented each class. This will give you an opportunity to try a variety of approaches. You might just find a new love! When you find that technique, you may want to keep going with it, exploring all that it can give you. Alternatively, you might come into this class with a particular goal, or dream project. This is where our "studio time" will come in. There will always be time to practice techniques, work on individual projects, and get more personalized guidance from me. The studio is a supportive and energetic environment! Materials: Some specialty materials will be provided for technical exercises, and available for group use. In addition to this, a materials list will be provided to you before our class meets. It will list the materials necessary to participate in the technical instruction. Highlighting a few items you should bring to the first class. Pre-Registration is requied.
