Cancer and cardiovascular disease are the top two causes of death in Kentucky and the United States. Cardio-oncology is a new field which focuses on diagnosing and preventing adverse cardiovascular outcomes in cancer patients. This involves understanding of interactions between cancer, cancer therapies and cardiology symptoms, including but not limited to cancer therapies, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and the novel immune checkpoint inhibitors. The purpose of the symposium is to provide state-of-the art best practice information regarding the continuum of cardiac care for the oncology patient.
